The Snakeshead Cowrie is also known as the Serpent’s Head Cowrie.
It is oval in shape with a raised central area. The markings on these shells are probably how they received their name.
Normally brown in colour the shell has irregular spots and flecks of yellow and white.
Cowries in all of their forms are perhaps the most collected of all shells species, with their beautiful colours, smooth porcelain like finish and unique pattern they always invite curious interest.
These shells are perfect for a number of shell craft projects – I have in the past been able to make them into earrings.
They would also look stunning if you wanted to use them for decoration purposes.
